China’s New Leftist
NY Times October 15, 2006 "Co-editor of China’s leading intellectual journal, Dushu (Reading), and the author of a four-volume history of Chinese thought, Wang, still in his mid-40’s, has emerged as a central figure among a group of writers and academics known collectively as the New Left. New Left intellectuals advocate a “Chinese alternative” to the neoliberal market economy, one that will guarantee the welfare of the country’s 800 million peasants left behind by recent reforms."
"For Wang, the problems associated with China’s uneven development were first identified by the demonstrators in Tiananmen Square in 1989. Wang himself was one of the last protesters to leave the square on the morning of June 4, 1989, as the tanks of the People’s Liberation Army closed in. Normally rather brisk and matter-of-fact, he grew animated as he described in fluent, if occasionally idiosyncratic, English how a “broad social movement” began to grow out of the distress caused by the shock therapy of market reforms."
"When Deng Xiaoping sought to bury the ghosts of Tiananmen for good by calling for speedy market reforms in 1992, he may well have calculated that the prospect of personal wealth — and access to Western brand-name goods — would compensate many newly enriched people for the lack of political democracy."
"More than 150 million people survive on a dollar a day. About 200 million of the rural population are crowding the cities and towns in search of low-paying jobs. More than four million Chinese participated in the 87,000 protests recorded in 2005, and these statistics may not fully convey the rage and discontent of Chinese living with one of the world’s highest income inequalities and deteriorating health and education systems, as well as the arbitrary fees and taxes imposed by local party officials.
Much of this, Wang said, could be laid at the feet of the “right-wing radicals” or neoliberal economists who cite Milton Friedman and Friedrich Hayek (advocates of unregulated markets who inspired Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher in the 80’s) and who argue for China’s integration into the global economy without taking into account the social price of mass privatization. And it is they, Wang added, who have held favor with the ruling elite and have dominated the state-run media."
Gosh! That was the silliest thing I´ve ever heard!!

Buddhism is Bad!
I did a bit of research on Buddhism and realized that its not as innocent as it appears, on the contrary, it´s an awful antiglobalization, anticapitalistic terrorist religion that should be globally banned and outlawed.
Here are a few quotes to show you why;
A Buddhist Response to the Age of “Globalization”
"As a result of the free market system, the natural environment in large pockets of the world is also in ruins beyond repair, threatening ecological equilibrium and human survival in general. And despite these obvious consequences, we are told that the free market system is still not free enough; there are still barriers to trade; economies have to be further deregulated or restructured at almost all costs; and so on. All these must be done in the name of progress, prosperity, development. If this faith in the emancipatory power of the free market system is not akin to fundamentalism, then what is?"
Buddha Bad for Business
"Buddhism is based on the notion that to avoid suffering and discontentment and thereby attain "inner peace," one must rid oneself of all desires.
That's ALL desires. "Suffering ceases with the cessation of craving" is the third "noble truth" of Buddhism. Material things then - even food, clothing and other necessities - are viewed as mere allurements. Even desiring a loving relationship or good health obstructs man's path to "Nirvana," the eternal peace.
It's hard to imagine a belief system more anti-life than that.
So where do businesspeople fit into such a philosophy? Clearly they don't.
The whole purpose of business is to satisfy desires - the desires of capitalists to earn a profit and the desires of customers for goods and services. So if desires are immoral, then businessmen - from computer giants to corner grocers - are guilty of serving vice."
A Buddhist Critique of Transnational Corporations
"We have given corporations dominion over the sustaining of our lives. They have become sovereign citizens and we have become consumers. They concentrate power and wealth. They design and shape our society and world. They carve our goals and aspirations. They shape our thoughts and our language. They create the images and metaphors of our time, which our children use to define their world and their lives. In other words: what corporations do well, what corporations are designed to be, is the problem."
A Buddhist Perspective on Greed and Globalization
"From a Buddhist perspective".. "economic growth and consumerism are unsatisfactory alternatives because they evade the basic problem of life by distracting us with symbolic substitutes such as money, status, and power. Similar critiques of idolatry are found in all the great religions, and rampant economic globalization makes that message all the more important today."
Globalization from a Buddhist Perspective.
"..from a Buddhist perspective the very core of the globalization process is the globalization of Tanah or "craving". According to Buddhist analysis Tanah is the root cause of all suffering."
Sounds just like bin Laden ...

But Facts are ...
Johan Norberg denies that there is growing poverty in the US and says that people who claim there is are paranoid and part of the problem.
And I couldnt agree more. Its the people claiming that globalization would somehow increase income gaps and economical inequality that are making people poorer, not neoliberal free trade, and these critics should be arrested and sent to Gitmo! It should be criminal to criticize neo-liberal globalization!
People saying things like these;
"The percentage of poor Americans who are living in severe poverty has reached a 32-year high, millions of working Americans are falling closer to the poverty line and the gulf between the nation's "haves" and "have-nots" continues to widen.
A McClatchy Newspapers analysis of the 2005 census figures, the latest available, found that nearly 16 million Americans are living in deep or severe poverty. A family of four with two children and an annual income of less than $9,903 - half the federal poverty line - was considered severely poor in 2005. So were individuals who made less than $5,080 a year.
He also calls it "trade union agitation". Yes trade unions are bad and destroying free trade, just look how bad the Swedish economy has suffered because of strong trade unions under the socialdemocrats and trade unions will surely destroy the Chinese economy as well, despite all attempts to fight it.
Multinational corporations are the ones who should decide how much they want to pay in salary, not the workers, the state or any silly human rights activists!
Workers organized in terrorist "unions" are hurting the profit of these multinationals and also my personal investments making my stocks fall.
So Johan Norberg and Dick Cheney are right in lobbying against trade unions and "fair trade" just as right as with global warming...
