Global Warming Saves Lives!

Johan Norberg: COLD IS THE WORST KILLER:
"The big story in Dagens Nyheter today is that thousands of Swedes will die every year because of higher temperatures. That´s correct, but shouldn´t they also write about the thousands of deaths from cold that will be avoided?

As Bjørn Lomborg points out in his new book Cool it! (now in Swedish) each year 200,000 Europeans die each year because from excess heat, but many more - 1.5 million - die from excess cold. In the UK an increase in temperature by 2 degrees will probably result in another 2,000 deaths from heat, but in 20,000 fewer deaths from cold."

Global warming is a nice bi-product of economic growth and should be seen as a blessing rather than something to fear! I mean who doesnt want a warmer climate?

In these cold wintry times im sure a lot of scandinavians would welcome a little global warming and think about how it would prevent a lot of broken bones in the ski slopes, frozen fingers plus lower heating costs!

U-Shopping is Good!

CUFs U-Shopping förklarar för alla humanrights-terrorister varför frihandel inte har några negativa effekter och avlivar 5 myter (eller 3 åtminstone för dom verkar inte ha hittat fler);

MYT 1: Fri handel är skadligt för miljön då varor transporteras långa sträckor!

CUF skriver; "Handeln i sig är inte skadligt för miljön utan det är bränslet i transporterna"

No shit? Om man bara hade hittat miljövänligt bränsle så hade transporterna inte varit ett problem. Önsketänkande är ju ett jättebra argument! 10 poäng!

Men transporterna är väl inte huvudargumentet, snarare att miljöproblemen exporteras till länder med sämre förmåga att leva upp till miljökrav. Men lite utsläpp är väl ingen som dött av?

MYT 2: Fri handel gynnar enbart de rika länderna som kan flytta produktionen till fattigare länder.

CUF skriver; "Det finns många tydliga exempel på länder där handel och öppenhet lett till resultat."

Handel har funnits sedan stenåldern men möjligheten att utnyttja förtryckt arbetskraft i diktaturer på andra sidan jorden är relativt ny och när man som jag och CUF övergått från att betrakta handel som vanliga ekonomiska transaktioner och istället börja betrakta det som fundamentalistisk religion med magiska egenskaper, så vill man ju inte gärna häda genom att titta på exempel som strider mot ens religiösa övertygelse...

MYT 3: Fri handel leder till barnarbete, sämre arbetsvillkor och lägre löner!

Barnarbete är ju bra, det har ju redan flera neoliberala tank-tänkare påpekat. Det är mycket bättre än barnprostitution och slavhandel (som iof inte är att förakta heller i min mening) För att utländska företag hjälper ju till att höja löner och förbättra arbetsvillkoren genom sitt otroliga stöd för fackföreningar i länderna de huserar i. För att inte tala om deras starka stöd för demokrati och mänskliga rättigheter.

Den hysteriska debatten om att Carl Bildts blogg skulle vara ett propagandaverktyg eller hot mot demokrati är ju absurd! (Men det är väl skönt att slippa prata om dramatiska omvälvningar i svensk utrikespolitik och sveriges roll som neutral fredsbevarare)

Det är väl klart att bloggar enbart är ett uttryck för den ökande friheten som kampen mot terrorismen och diktaturer möjliggjort!

Freedom Index is Good!

I wrote earlier about the Heritage Foundations "Freedom Index" but i thought i´d´take another look at it since it seem to be the central of all things neoliberal.

There was particularly two "Freedoms" that caught my attention;
"Freedom from Government" and "Labor Freedom".

Here is the "Freedom from Government" Top 8;

1. Guatemala
2. Haiti
3. El Salvador
4. Guinea
5. Costa Rica
6. Peru
7. Hong Kong
8. Armenia

And the "Labor Freedom" Top 8;

1. Georgia
2. Singapore
3. Uganda
4. Hong Kong
5. Australia
6. Saudi Arabia
7. United States
8. Thailand

All extremely "free" countries indeed!

When I clicked through these links I couldnt help to notice that the names of the links didnt match the names of the particular "Freedom" so for example clicking on "Fiscal Freedom" it said "Fiscal Burden" and so on.

Here is the list;
Business Freedom = Regulation
Fiscal Freedom = Fiscal Burden
Freedom from Government = Government Intervention
Monetary Freedom = Monetary Policy
Investment Freedom = Foreign Investment
Financial Freedom = Banking
Labor Freedom = Wages and Prices
Freedom from Corruption = Informal Market

And I thought that was strange...
Corruption is called "Informal Market". Now the wikipedia definition of "Informal Market" is the following;

Informal market

"In economics, the term informal economy refers to the general market income category (or sector) wherein certain types of income and the means of their generation are "unregulated by the institutions of society, in a legal and social environment in which similar activities are regulated."

Simply put, it is economic activity that is neither taxed nor monitored by a government; and is not included in that government's Gross National Product (GNP); as opposed to a formal economy"

Now since the Heritage Foundation only seem to define the lack of laws and regulations imposed on foreign investment by a elected or nonelected government a "freedom", then the very idea of democratic freedom, as in an elected government, is completely irrelevant.

The democratic status of a nation is of no interest, what is interesting is the freedom from "Government Intervention" in your "Foreign Investment" and the ideal "Freedom from Government" would be an "Informal Market" because it completely free from "Government Intervention"

So as i´ve said before corruption is good! Now where can I find the biggest "informal markets" in the world?

"In transition countries by far the largest informal economy was in Georgia with 67.3%"

Now what a coincidence thats number one in the world in "Labor Freedom"

And a statment about China I found interesting was this;

"The informal market must be allowed to flourish, he said. Returns in the informal market are high versus low in the formal sector. This explains why, despite Chinas poor legal and financial structures, it has sustained growth. Informal financing and government arrangements are effective. The fact is that agreements work under the common goal of profit sharing.

So what the World Bank manager of finance actually says to the chinese government is "dont mess with the Hong Kong money laundering operations".

Another country with very big shadow economy is the US;

As a cash crop, marijuana is believed to have outstripped maize, and hardcore porn revenue is equal to Hollywood's domestic box office takings."

Corruption is good! The bad news is that the chinese government is trying to fight it as well as now is calling for a fairer, greener economy...

Update; I saw that Sweden is number one in paying bribes in the world

USA is Good!

Som den utmärkta bloggen "Jihad i Malmö" rapporterar, har USA lagt fram ett förslag i FN om att fördöma förintelseförnekelse och förslaget har redan fått backning av 80 medlemsländer i generalförsamlingen.

Detta är en markering mot den antisemitistiska konferensen i Teheran som hölls i december 2006.

USA visar åter deras starka stöd för FN och medlemsstaternas intressen.

Och som både Kulturrevolution och Erik Svansbo påpekar, det är nödvändigt att stödja Israel i kampen mot ayatollorna i Iran som hotar ta över världen med sina olagliga kärnvapen.
